GSC welcomes Erik Solheim as new Global Ambassador

We are thrilled to announce that Erik Solheim, a distinguished global leader in environment, development, and diplomacy, has joined the Global Solar Council (GSC) as our Global Ambassador.

Erik brings decades of unparalleled experience to GSC. As a former Executive Director of UNEP, Norwegian Minister of Environment and International Development, and OECD Development Assistance Committee Chair, his contributions to sustainability and climate action are widely recognized.

Throughout his career, Erik has:

• Championed global rainforest conservation and biodiversity legislation.
• Negotiated peace in Sri Lanka and contributed to peace processes in Nepal, Myanmar, Sudan, and Burundi.
• Advocated for green development through key roles, including as International Vice President of the Belt and Road Green Development Coalition and Chair of the Green Hydrogen Organization's Development Roundtable.

Erik’s leadership and influence span continents, with deep ties to Asia, Europe, and beyond. As a highly respected voice in global sustainability, his vision aligns perfectly with GSC's mission to advance solar energy adoption worldwide.

"Solar energy will be the power of the 21st century. The Global Solar Council will be key to make sure the solar industry spreads fast to provide cheap, clean energy to all humans in all corners of the world. The GSC will also provide an arena for discussing key challenges of solar power. We need dialogue with local communities on land issues, batteries for the time when the sun is not shining and to combine solar panels with agriculture and urban development. In short I wish to help build a people centered solar industry" commented Solheim on why he is looking forward to supporting GSC's work to advance the solar revolution across the world.

"For the first time in human history a new development model is possible. Until very recently there was no way to prosperity without fossil fuels. But over the last decade the price of solar has fallen with 90%. When solar power now is the cheapest energy across the planet we are approaching the age of the sun" he added on the importance of solar PV to transform the world's energy systems and economies.
